Changing the wireless channel

Hyperoptic can't guarantee the wireless speeds your device will achieve, as there are many factors that can influence the strength of your connection. For best speed results we would always recommend connecting using a wired connection.

The most common limitation on wireless speed is interference from other wireless devices in your area. Each wireless device connects to a wireless channel and if other devices are using the same channel, this can influence the quality of your connection. You can change the wireless channel that you connect to by logging in to the router. If you can find a channel with limited usability, this often will have a positive effect on the speeds you can achieve.

To change the wireless channel on your router, first you will need to know which router you are using. If you are using a Hyperoptic router, there are 3 possibilities:

Changing the wireless channel should improve most wireless speed issues, but please be aware that using a wireless connection, even in perfect conditions. It is unlikely your router will return a speed test of more than 80Mbps, as this is around the maximum output possible from a router.

Other techniques to improve your speed include: rebooting the router (basic step, but it does help) and making sure you are not too far away from your router. If your property covers a large area you may want to look into purchasing a wireless range extender, which increases the coverage area of your wireless signal.

Other devices can also cause interference, for example tangles of wires, other routers and cordless devices such as baby monitors.

The performance of the device that is connected can also influence the speeds you achieve, so it is always advised running a comparison test with additional devices to determine an average.
